I'm Natalie Whillans, an artist based in Thame, Oxfordshire. My practice explores mainly human, but also animal, form as a vessel for emotion, communication and personal experience. Working primarily in sculpture, alongside painting and drawing, I investigate how subtle physical gestures, expressions and body language can reveal the complexity of feeling.
Clay has become my primary medium as it allows for an intuitive and tactile process, enabling me to shape and respond to the emotional character of each figure as it develops. Alongside sculpture, I work with oils and acrylics in painting, and charcoal and pastel in drawing, each medium offering a different way to interpret the human presence.
